2017-2018 outreach Programme

Fun with IEEE EDS

Functional Devices Laboratory, Institute of Advanced Technology (ITMA), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) , Universiti Sains Malaysia and Sekolah Menengah Sains Kepala Batas had jointly organized a young scientist program namely Fun with IEEE EDS which was held  during IEEE RSM 2017 at Penang. This event was done in collaboration with IEEE EDS under EDS-ETC Program which enables EDS chapter members to visit local schools to engage young students in the field of electrical engineering.

Electronics Magic with SBJK: IEEE Day 2017

Electronics Magic: Educational Programme with SBJK in conjunction with IEEE Day 2017

Electronics Magic! is an educational and a community service event organized by IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS) Malaysia Chapter and sponsored by IEEE Region 10 EA Fund and IEEE Malaysia Section. In the spirit of leveraging technology for a better tomorrow, the event is aimed to share the beautiful world of electronics to the underprivileged children at Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning using IEEE EDS-ETC kits. Located in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih is a unique school designed by the government of Malaysia for street children in giving them access to education.

The event is conducted in conjunction with IEEE Open Day celebration at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with an objective to show to the students that everything around them in their daily lives are all somehow connected to electronics. This shows how important electronics are and they also can be part of these important people to work on electronics in the future. Number of attendees are 50 including 26 underprivileged children, IEEE members and committee members. The event is supported by IEEE EDS members, IEEE Malaysia Section members, staff and post graduate students of Kulliyyah of Engineering, IIUM and representatives from Persatuan Saintis Muslim Malaysia (PERINTIS). 3 photos, 1 short video and 1 long video of the programme are submitted to the IEEE Day 2017 online Photo Contest and Video Contest, respectively.

Some of IEEE members involved in the event : Dr Aliza, Dr Nor Farahidah, Dr Susi, Dr Lee and Dr Rosminazuin.

Participants and committee members are happy to be involved in the event.

Young Scientist Programme

April 2, 2016 – Functional Devices Laboratory, Institute of Advanced Technology (ITMA), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Sekolah Menengah Sri Al-Amin Bangi had jointly organized a young scientist program namely ‘Program Saintis Muda’ which was held in the school’s main hall. This event was done in collaboration with IEEE EDS under EDS-ETC Program which enables EDS chapter members to visit local schools to engage young students in the field of electrical engineering.

There are about thirty students participated in the program. The program was divided into three sessions. The first session was for ice-breaking where the students enhanced their intelligence by playing puzzle blocks. In the second session, the students utilized the easy-to-use Elenco Snap Circuits® kits which gave them hands-on experience in assembling a series of electric circuits for some electronic applications. In the third session, the students had to design a water sensor circuit with the guidance from the facilitators. Besides the three sessions, there was an exhibition on solar panel power generation.

All the students seemed to be excited and satisfied with the program. The program ended with certificate give-away ceremony and a photo-session.
